Da Count and I (your favorite Countess) being the fun loving couple that we are decided to celebrate Valentine’s Day Weekend in a fang-tastically special way this year. 13th Floor Haunted House Chicago invited us to experience their annual Vampire-themed Love Bites haunt with Platinum passes and we were excited for a sweet time on lucky Friday the 13th!
We haven’t been to 13th Floor in awhile so we were surprised to see a few exterior changes. There was a carnival/funhouse theme with circus wagon styled kiosks where we went to pick up our VIP lanyards and lighted wristbands. There was even a bar outside to get drinks to get you ready for the vampire excitement! The best part of our Platinum status is immediate entry to the building, which is very convenient for chilly nights!
As you enter the waiting area there is a haunting asylum facade that just screams WELCOME TO YOUR NIGHTMARE — but in a hearts and flowers kind of way! Then we got our photo taken in a spooky Valentine’s decorated room where you have the option to purchase the photo after.
Going thru the haunt was a lot of fun, there were a lot of twists and turns and there were tons of vampires who were really out to get me, but haha jokes on them because I brought my own vampire! The scare actors were on point and seemed to enjoy bantering with us as we navigated the spooky scenes. We also had fun throwing garlic balls at the Valentine Vamps and they even passed out holiday headgear and necklaces. Souvenirs, yay!
We also found the secret bar!!! If you bought access (included with Platinum VIP) and have your lighted wristband on, you get sneakily guided towards a hidden room. It was a gory decorated but cozy little haven in the middle of the haunt where we had these delicious pomegranate lime tequila shots that really made us feel good and ready for another round of being chased by vampires in the rest of the haunted house.
When you exit, you get go through this really cool gift shop with loads of Valentine themed merch as well as other haunted house goodies. The escape rooms and zombie shooting games are also located there. Since we had our Platinum VIP, we got complimentary access to everything and really enjoyed ourselves. The best game was the Dracula one (obviously) but there are other spooky rooms including Frankenstein and an Egyptian theme. The zombie shooting was fun but one of our guns didn’t work so we got extra chances.
Da Count and I want to thank 13th Floor for the Platinum passes, we had an amazing and unforgettable time, nice to see how the other half lives teehee! Platinum VIP is expensive but so worth it because you get EVERYTHING including skip the line, access to the secret bar, mini escape game and a souvenir photo and lanyard. You also get a 13% discount at the gift shop.
All in all, Love Bites was a really good alternative to the lovey-dovey mushy Valentine’s Day stuff going on. Highly recommended for friends, fiends, gothic gals and guys too. Trust me, it’s way more fun if you’re a vampire yourself. *wink*.
