Of the many reasons why people go to haunted houses, one is the thrill and chill we get from visiting. Similar to horror movies, in the end we know we’re completely safe. We get the shivers and quickened heartbeats, yet we’re still intact, experiencing a post-haunted house rush that is sometimes indescribable.
The House of Creeps is a haunted house set up at Wintrust Field, a baseball stadium that is the home of the Schaumburg Boomers baseball team. The haunted house is not set up on the baseball diamond itself–rather, it’s set up on the suite level or floors of the main grandstand. When House of the Creeps first began years ago, it was much smaller, having started in 2020 during the shutdowns. The first incarnation of it was on a front lawn and backyard during the 2020 lockdowns, and it proved so popular that hundreds were lining up. Eventually, the haunted house was invited to the Boomers stadium and the rest is history.

Each year, this haunted house expands further. As of this year, the haunted house is the largest it’s ever been, divided into two lengthy sections with a passageway in between the two. Without giving away any spoilers, the haunted house is divided into rooms, each with a theme. Each room is stocked well, and a ton of effort was put into each room’s setup. The whole creation was so elaborate that you felt as if you were on a movie set! As you moved along the haunted house, you could see all the work that was put into each room.

Sometimes the House of Creeps was so scary that my party and I wanted to linger for a bit in one place! Some of the rooms were so enjoyable that we took a lot of photos, each one photogenic and seemingly right out of a well-made scary movie. The actors in the haunted house were effective at their craft, sneaking up on you and being there when you least expect it. We were listening to all of the screams coming from other people who were visiting, and that was a lot of fun. As for our psychological reactions, it was as if we ourselves were in A Nightmare on Elm Street or Tobe Hooper’s The Funhouse, not only watching it but having the effect doubled because we felt as if we were actually in the movies. The sound effects throughout the haunted house were well-done and matched the mood flawlessly.

It was a great time and highly recommended! Possibly this haunted house will become even larger next year since each year it expands. The creators, it seems, have ideas occur to them during the offseason and add these new rooms each year for the public’s delight. The haunted house is stored on-site in the baseball stadium throughout the year, waiting for the Halloween season.
The House of Spooks is there with the Schaumburg Halloween Carnival. This was the Fourth Annual Schaumburg Halloween Carnival filled with tasty treats, seasonally themed arts, costume contests, and fantastic rides for all. Both the House of Creeps and the carnival are highly recommended! Fun for all and excellent to get you further into the Halloween spirit!
