HAUNT REVIEW 2025 – The Catacombs at St Pascal

Da Count and I love a good old-school haunted house just like we used to go to when we we kids. Well, look no further than The Catacombs at St Pascal, which by the way is Chicago’s longest running haunted house since 1979!

The haunt is really easy to get to as it’s just west of Irving Park and Central on Chicago’s Northwest side and there is a free parking lot across the street. It is also accessible by CTA bus. The entrance area outside was decorated with skeletons and cool tombstones marked with the names of all the sponsors and the atmosphere was enhanced by the sounds of Ozzy Osbourne tunes.

The lobby itself wasn’t decorated spooky, I’m thinking because it’s a church school. But don’t worry, once you turn into the line waiting area the fun begin . The closer to Halloween the bigger the line gets and it gets pretty long over at St Pascal’s as it’s very popular. VIP lets you avoid that huge line, line entertainment did come into the VIP room where we sat and waited to go directly into the haunted house. There is plenty of walk-around creatures if you decide to go general admission so you will have fun either way.

Before you go into The Catacombs itself, you first go into the basement where you have your picture taken. This year the setting is as if you were in a pop figurine box. Then when they are ready to take you into the haunted house you are seated in a dark room lit by black light so everything glows in the dark, a really cool effect especially since I was wearing a neon yellow shirt. The interior was set creepily with a fireplace encrusted in skulls and a sarcastic and spooky ghost named Josephine was seated on her terror throne. She cracked jokes and gave us the rules of the house while we waited to enter. At the end when the zombie came in to guide us down to the boiler room, we were warned not to die lol.

This year you will be attacked by lots and I mean LOTS of zombies! Some of them were a bit overzealous, but the acting and presence was spooktacular. The scenery was great too from the sewers to a meat market there is something in The Catacombs that will frighten the most jaded of haunt goers. Special effects were fun and it was a blend of darkness and glowing light. I almost got lost haha, a special thank you to the haunter that helped guide me back to Da Count.

It was really awesome to be at The Catacombs again, they never disappoint. We always have a good old-school haunt time. See you next year!
