Valentine’s Day, or as we like to call it, VAMPentine’s Day is a very special time of year for us vampires. Bloody hearts, dark romantic spaces and the color red EVERYWHERE. What’s not to love? Well, for Haunted House lovers like Da Count and I, there is just one place to go for that devilish date and of course we are talking about 13th Floor Haunted House Chicago’s annual “Love Bites” event that took place this past weekend!
13th Floor Chicago is located in Schiller Park, just outside of Rosemont which makes it easy to have a romantic dinner afterwards at one of their many fine dining establishments. It is also convenient from the city if you are taking the CTA, you can Uber from the train station at Rosemont directly there. If you are driving, parking is a little bit challenging, they have valet parking for 20 bucks and I think they might have another private lot but it’s further away or you can try and find street parking which is not fun. Luckily, I have a handicap placard so we were allowed to park in the lot next to the haunted house by the exit. Make sure you don’t park in any of the spots by the restaurants nearby they will tow you!
Da Count and I were feeling the spooky love vibes as we entered the outdoor waiting area. It was quite chilly but we were warmly greeted by our friends who were haunting the place. It was so good to see everybody! Another familiar sight was the spooky Grim Reaper draped over the entrance to the building it was highlighted by a red and white light making it very festive. The indoor area was similarly decorated with flowers draped above the asylum very romantic always love a good time at the loony bin haha!
Now the point of Love Bites is a vampire themed Valentine’s Day haunted house where you have to survive the vampires that are roaming around waiting to get you. I wasn’t too scared because I brought my own vampire! But it didn’t matter to these guys they really worked at being scary and lurking around. The house itself was decorated romantically – if you really think that blood and guts is romantic hahaha! There was a lot of twists and turns and there is even one spot where you got to navigate a slanted floor which is quite hard for me but I tried anyway.
When you exit, you get go through this really cool gift shop with loads of Valentine themed merch as well as other haunted house goodies. Met a few more fiends and generally had a good time! Love Bites was a really good alternative to the lovey-dovey mushy Valentine’s Day stuff going on. Highly recommended for friends, fiends, gothic gals and guys too. Trust me, it’s way more fun if you’re a vampire yourself. *wink*
