Wow! It seems like C2E2 had come faster than usual this year…because it actually has! Yes, mortals and morsels the one and only Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo has come back a mere 8 months after their pre-Xmas edition back in December. This year we FINALLY got what we wished for, a chance to go to C2E2 in weather warm enough not to have to wear a winter coat over our outfits. I’m sure the cosplayers appreciated it haha.
C2E2 took place during the weekend of August 5-7, 2022 and one of the major highlights for Team Gregula was the Saturday return of the one and only Grim Marco, back from his Ohio dungeon! It was a exciting time even though our visit was short as he also had a lot going on for his Birthday weekend. Because he couldn’t be at the con on his actual Birthday day on Sunday the 7th…we scored a surprise gift of a greeting from one of his (and our) favorite voice artists Rob Paulsen, who did it in the voice of Pinky from Pinky and the Brain! The best part was it was Mr Paulsen’s idea!!!
Sunday was also the day that Da Count and Countess made their annual appearance and we got to meet and greet so many fun celebs. First up we had to meet Chicago’s very own Horror Host icon Svengoolie, whom we haven’t seen in person since C2E2 2020. It was nice to see him again and also his assistant Jim Roche who is also a good fiend of ours.
Before the Sven meeting we ran into some very familiar characters from our childhood. Cosplayers dressed as Bozo, Cooky and Wizzo in screen accurate costumes were walking around the convention center greeting excited fans!
The best part of the weekend was meeting up with all the voices of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Cam Clarke (Raphael) and Townsend Coleman (Michaelangelo) were hilarious and Rob Paulsen (Leonardo) was awesome. We had a very nice conversation with Barry Gordon (Donatello) where we talked about other shows we’ve seen him in, including a guest appearance on Three’s Company as Gilbert who was Chrissy’s secret admirer. So much fun!
C2E2 was a heroically amazing time, got to catch up with friends, meet fun celebs and see awesome cosplayers. We absolutely cannot wait for next year’s edition! See ya later!
