For anyone who grew up begging their parents to take them to ShowBiz Pizza Place, June 6, 2026, was a dream decades in the making. The Volo Museum hosted a once-in-a-generation reunion, premiering the first brand-new, professionally produced Rock-afire Explosion show tape in over 30 years and Team Gregula had the extreme honor of covering this fang-tastic event.

The collaboration of creative legends made the day truly magical. Original voices like Aaron Fechter (Billy Bob/Looney Bird/Rolfe DeWolfe/Earl Schmerle), Rick Bailey (Beach Bear), and Shalisa James (Mitzi) teamed up with new talent—including Shooter Jennings (Waylon Jennings’ son!) voicing Fatz Geronimo and Brandon Shepherd as Dook LaRue—to bring fresh energy to the characters.

Da Count had indulged in the pre-show VIP meet and greet so we all got to meet everyone in person. Everyone was so nice and the biggest surprise of the day was Aaron Fechter himself recognizing Count Gregula! We all did a double take and even recorded the moment for posterity. Then Aaron pulled out his own phone and did a video with Gregula and Earl Schmerle!!! It was definitely the highlight of Da Count’s afterlife as he has been a fan of the Rock-afire Explosion since the 1980s.

Afterwards we went to the courtyard where it was packed with generations of fans – from adults reliving their childhood memories to newer fans just discovering this amazing band – having a great time being treated to the first professionally produced all-new Rock-afire Explosion show in more than 30 years. In between the animatronic performances Aaron Fechter along with the voice singers and backup band performed live for the eager crowd. It was super hot so I only saw a little bit but Greg was there for a good portion of the show and got some video and our trusty photographer Robert (Van Helsing) Dicke took the stills.

It was a sweaty hot but good time and I’m so glad we were there for this historic event. I’m kinda jealous I didn’t have the opportunity to go to ShowBiz Pizza when I was younger but Volo Museum has given me the opportunity to be able to experience the magic, charm, and heart of the Rock-afire Explosion, which remains entirely untouched by time.
