HAUNT REVIEW 2024: Abandoned Haunted House Complex

Sharing is s-caring!

Road trips are lots of fun but even more so when it’s an eerie excursion to a haunted house. Team Gregula recently traveled up north to the Land of Cheese (aka Wisconsin) to hex-perience the almighty Abandoned Haunted House Complex!

Abandoned is conveniently located right off of I-94 in Mt. Pleasant, WI near the Racine / Kenosha area. You can even see the sign right from the expressway! Even though it is a bit of a hike from Chicago, it’s still very easy to get to and parking is plentiful. To get a prime spot it’s best to arrive before opening, because it gets mighty crowded as the night goes on. We did just that and got first row by the entrance…score!!!

Another good reason to get to Abandoned early is to witness “The Rising” where all the resident creatures make their way into the houses! The fearful fun begins at 6:45 PM nightly with a video countdown and a short film presentation on a big screen above the outdoor waiting area. After that is chaos as the monsters pour into the path between the crowd leading to the haunts! There is excellent wait entertainment throughout the complex with tons of interaction with the scare actors. Fun x 10000!!!

Even though waiting in line is half the fun, lines do get massive especially closer to Halloween so a Quickpass was very much appreciated and highly recommended by us. A majority of the complex waiting areas are also outside which can get a bit cold, luckily there were several trash can firepits that kept people warm.

Abandoned has three separate haunted houses within its gates. We started out in Ambush, which was massively intense. There were dark mazes and jump scares aplenty with lots of twists and turns that blew our minds. As we went further, the passages got progressively tighter which made it a total workout! Just when we thought we were done, everyone got ushered into another waiting area as we segued into Hysteria, where we had some fun banter with the characters as well as navigating detailed spooky scenes. From the catacombs to a crematorium to a chain fence prison area guarded by psychos, it was terrifically terrfying scares for everyone!

Stalker was the longest and funnest section of the entire haunt. The mostly outdoor cornstalk themed maze was accentuated with highly detailed scenery and expert actor interaction which made us feel like we were a part of it all. We traveled through a cemetery full of macabre mausoleums, entered creepy camper trailers with even creepier rednecks and dodged the children of the corn(stalks)!

After you’re done and you’re not ready to go home there is also axe throwing. We didn’t really partake in that because we were just that cold and tired, but we did go into the Fear Gear souvenir shop where we picked up a t-shirt for Da Count and a fleece for me. Abandoned Haunted House Complex is a FULL evening of fright delights – we were there from 6:30PM to well after 10PM because there was just so much to take in! HIGHLY recommended and we hope to go back next fear, erm year.
