CHICAGO LIVE! - Winter Season Premiere 2012 :

Review by: Count Gregula

For the Vinter Season Premiere (February 2, 2012) of Chicago Live! the venue changed from being in the basement of the Chicago Theatre to the UP Comedy Club @ Second City. Guests included WGN Radio morning host Jonathon Brandmeier being interviewed by Rick Kogan, author Sara Paretsky being interviewed by Mary Schmich, host of WTTW's "Chicago Stand-Up Project" Pat McGann with the up-and-coming comedian Father Tom Hurley of Old St. Patrick's Church being interviewed by Rick Kogan and a performance by singer Gina Bloom of the Chicago rock/soul band called The Congregation.
Also, just like at every Chicago Live! show, there vere comedic interludes from The Second City.

The show runs very smoothly between interviews and comedy segments. Jonathon Brandmeier vas very funny during his interview and even "roasted" a few of the audience members. I enjoy the little impromptu comedy filler segments that are added between the interviews by members of The Second City. Author Sara Paretsky stood up and sang a song after her interview. Pat McGann and Father Tom Hurley had the audience rolling in the aisles vith their comedic chemistry. Ending the night vith a performance by The Congregation made it a perfect vay to leave the venue in a sense of utter tranquility. Also, I think the addition of sitting at a table to be able to order food and drinks is a good idea, but they just need to space out the seats better because my party had to share a table vith 2 other guys! I'm sure they vill fix the seating situation better for future shows since I pointed that problem out to those in charge at the venue.

After the show there is a 30 minute reception ro meet and greet vith the guests that appeared on that veek's show. During that time, Greg vas able to pose for a few promo photos vith show host Rick Kogan and surprise audience member Ronnie "Woo Woo" Wickers! VOW! :-)
